  3. Gayle,

Here is my case study idea. I will be leaving for Florida early Thursday morning so I need to get my paper done before I leave.

    See you next Monday!

Orange Township is a government entity located in West Palm Beach, Florida. Orange Township is managed by the Board, elected by the citizens. The board consists of a Supervisor, a Clerk, a Treasurer and six trustees. In November 2008 the citizens of Orange County elected a new Supervisor. Much to his dismay the position came with an indescribable amount of bad budgeting and decision making by the previous Supervisor. Consequently, the budget was over spent by more than $80,000 forcing the new board to make many policy and schedule changes, as well as, cuts in overtime. These changes and cuts have caused the employees of Orange Township a considerable amount of stress and anguish. Therefore causing a breakdown in communication between the Supervisor, management and Public Safety Officers, which ultimately has caused negativity in the workplace.

Orange Township recognizes the stress that the employees are under but also expects them to come to work without negative comments and lack of productivity. In an effort to manage negativity in the workplace the Supervisor has decided to meet with the employees for a team building exercise.

  4. Gayle,

In the past I have had this experience. I have found that surveying the employees for feedback/ suggestions regarding an issue before the new policy is implemented has been most helpful in identifying concerns that othrwise may not have been considered.

Also discussing/brainstorming the issue in a staff meeting also gives employees the satisfactions that their concerns are being considered.
